At the airport to go to Phoenix for my first ever glimpse of my nephew. Super excited about this, even if my flight has been delayed and I will landed after midnight. Sigh.
It’s been a hard week, but today has been looking up. I’ve had a better mood today even though I’m not sure why. Maybe because I’m getting out of town and will be surrounded by adorable kids and my bestest friend ever.
I’m also doing a no-no and indulging in an IPA. I should not have beer because it makes my innards cranky, but it’s been a hard week, y’know? And I’m stuck at the airport for longer than I anticipated. Oh, IPA, delicious IPA on tap. You will make me gassy and bloated but I don’t care. The people sitting next to me on the flight might. But right now I’m a happy camper who doesn’t care that her flight is late.
Annnnnndddd… Now I’ve just added sweet potato fries. So indulgent.
I’m totally on board this delayed flight thing now. Also, if you’re ever stuck at DIA with a couple of hours to kill, I give my approval of New Belgium. The beer snob in me who considers NB to be just a step up from Coors approves of their IPA. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it, but it’s really tasty. More piney than grapefruity, which is my preference. Yeah, it’s a hike to the outermost of Concourse B, but dudes, IPA on tap and sweet potato fries. My Tuesday night trivia joint doesn’t even have IPA on tap (although they do have sweet potato fries).
Then again, it’s been ages since I’ve had a beer (and for the record, while there are some quaffable gluten-free beverages that call themselves beer, they are decidedly not beer). So just about anything with enough hops would be delicious.
Also, yay for smartphones! Normally I’m the type to grumble at the anti-social aspect of them, but at the moment I seem preoccupied with something important by tapping all this out, and giving the cold-shoulder to the overly-friendly on-his-third-beer traveller next to me. Sigh. I’ve forgotten that strangers find me oddly fascinating and want to share their life stories with me.
Ok. Time to pay and wander the airport. I actually brought a book that I’ve been wanting to read for awhile — yes, a real book with paper pages and everything — so I suppose I’ll find out my gate and hunker in.
(And I feel like I should apologize for going on and on about the IPA but the last time I’ve had a beer was when I was last in England. Almost a year, people. Almost a year…)
Edited to add:The moving walkways are a LOT more fun after a beer, especially when you’re a crazy lightweight like I am. Whee.
